A cozy, not-so-spooky October 🎃

Hi Reader,

October has a way of slowing me down, if I let it.

The light goes golden earlier, the kettle stays on a little longer, and suddenly the best part of the season isn’t a big event. It’s an ordinary evening with the lamps low and everyone piled onto the couch.

That’s the kind of Halloween I’m after this year. Cozy, a little bit spooky, and nowhere near stressful.

When I was a kid, Halloween meant catching a favorite movie on TV, or sliding a worn VHS tape into the player just as the leaves started to turn. I realized those are exactly the movies I want to share with my own family now. So I rounded up my favorites in a new post:

Best 90s Kids’ Halloween Movies: 22 Family-Friendly Favorites for Spooky Season →

You’ll find the cozy classics (hello, Hocus Pocus and Casper), the Disney Channel favorites we waited all October for, and gentle picks for the little ones. Every movie has a one-to-three ghost spook level, so you’ll know at a glance what’s right for your crew. There are no scary movies on this list, only witches, friendly ghosts, and a Pumpkin King.

Want it on your fridge?

I made a free printable Halloween Movie Night Checklist with all 26 movie and TV picks, a snack pairing for each one, and a spot to rate them together. Movie night gets planned before you press play.

A simple movie night, no perfect setup needed

  • Pop popcorn on the stovetop with melted butter and a little cinnamon sugar
  • Pour warm cider or cocoa into mismatched mugs
  • Turn off every light except a string of fairy lights or a pumpkin candle
  • Let everyone pick one movie, and call it a weekend

Perfect isn’t the goal here. Cozy, together, and a little bit spooky is plenty.

Wishing you a gentle, golden October,

P.S. If you’d like a little help making the whole month feel calm and cozy, my Home Sweet Halloween magazine is just $7 for a short time.
